Before you travel

What to pack

  • Sunscreen, a hat and water, even when the day is cloudy.
  • For surfing: sunscreen, water and clothes that can get wet.
  • For Ostional: comfortable clothes, insect repellent and no white lights or flash.
  • From May to November it mostly rains in the afternoon: bring something for the rain.
  • If you're renting a vehicle: a driver's license and your passport or Costa Rican ID (either one is enough).

Do I need cash?

Carry some cash for small shops. Bookings with Lapa are paid by card.

Are helmets required on ATVs?

Yes, for both the driver and the passenger. The rental details are on the ATV page.

How far ahead do I need to book?

It depends on the service: in today's catalog, between 1 and 24 h ahead. You'll see it on each service page and in How it works.

Can I drive at night?

The roads have no street lights and the sun sets between 5:15 and 6:10 PM, depending on the month. It's best to head back in daylight.
